March 2025 – Allocutio – by Lucy Waty \/President<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Leadership in the Legion and Mary\u2019s Guidance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Dear Legionaries,<\/p>\n\n\n\n Today, let us reflect on how Our Lady of Good Counsel<\/strong> can inspire leadership in the Legion of Mary. We will also see how the joy of Easter<\/strong> should shape our service and mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mary: A Model of Leadership and Wisdom<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In every organization, good leadership is essential. In the Legion of Mary, leadership is not about power\u2014it is about service, humility, and trust in God. As Our Lady of Good Counsel<\/em>, Mary is the perfect example of a wise and loving leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n How did Mary lead?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 With humility<\/strong> \u2013 She never sought power, yet God chose her to be the Mother of Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 With wisdom<\/strong> \u2013 Mary did not speak much in Scripture, but when she did, her words were full of grace. Her simple instruction at Cana, \u201cDo whatever He tells you\u201d (John 2:5)<\/em>, is the best advice we can follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 With prayer and reflection<\/strong> \u2013 The Bible tells us that Mary kept everything in her heart (Luke 2:19). A good leader does not rush into decisions but seeks guidance from God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Leadership in the Legion: A Call to Serve, Not to Rule<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The structure of the Legion\u2014Senatus, Comitium, Curia, and Praesidium\u2014helps us work in unity. Every role in the Legion, from President to ordinary members, is about service, not status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n True leadership is not about who is in charge<\/strong>, but who is willing to serve<\/strong>. Pope Francis<\/p>\n\n\n\n reminds us: \u201cA true leader serves with humility, not with a desire for power.\u201d<\/em> <\/strong>This is the spirit we must embrace in the Legion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Joy of Easter in Our Legionary Service<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Easter is not just about Jesus\u2019 resurrection\u2014it is also about our mission to share His joy. After Easter, the disciples, once fearful, became bold in spreading the Gospel. We, as Legionaries, must also bring Easter joy into our service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n How can we bring Easter joy into our leadership in the Legion<\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n 1. Serve with love, not ambition.<\/strong> See your role in the Legion as a privilege to serve, not as a<\/p>\n\n\n\n burden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 2. Work together in unity.<\/strong> Just as the disciples united after Easter, we must work together<\/p>\n\n\n\n in the Legion without division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 3. Seek Mary\u2019s guidance.<\/strong> As Our Lady of Good Counsel<\/em>, she will always lead us in our service<\/p>\n\n\n\n if we ask for her help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Leadership in the Legion is not just about structure\u2014it is about following Mary\u2019s<\/p>\n\n\n\n example.
